Nagi no Asukara Episode 10

[HorribleSubs] Nagi no Asukara - 10 [720p].mkv_snapshot_06.51_[2013.12.05_22.52.55]

So much sadness this week.

The calamity is slowly approaching as the world gradually begins to freeze over. Uroko urges to cut all ties with the surface and to wait out the impending disaster. Ena enables the residents of Shioshishio to enter into a hibernation state in order to wait out the freeze and reawaken after the calamity has passed. Hikari pleads with Uroko to allow everyone to finish the Ofunehiki in an attempt to strengthen the sea god to divert the calamity and to save the people living on the surface. Shioshishio has a final feast before they fast in order to harden their ena in preparation for their hibernation. As disaster is looming and with doubts of ever awakening again, secrets are being shared.

My Thoughts:

Let us start with the obvious dilemma; the one thing we couldn’t get our mind off of since the ending of last episode: Manaka’s emotional situation. She is avoiding Hikari because she understands his feelings towards her. Manaka is already aware of Chisaki’s feelings and also has feelings for Tsumugu, but with the hopelessness added in due to the calamity, Manaka is at the brink of her despair. Everyone knows something is wrong but thinks it is only due to the separation between the land and sea. Hikari is still set on protecting Manaka and I feel that Manaka suddenly realizes how close they have really been. While Chisaki and Kaname are comforting Manaka, she is openly worried that she would be the only one waking up or waking up alone. She is worried that Hikari wouldn’t be there when she wakes up and that clearly bothers her.

One of the final scenes in this episode, Manaka is at unease in her room having memories of Hikari flash onto screen. I felt that this scene was a bit misleading to build up the drama slightly more. Though she is shown dwelling on Hikari for some time, Hikari can’t be the only person on her mind. I’m sure that when the old man was talking to Manaka about having to “pop out children,” she was really feeling that she would be the future hope of Shioshishio. Such drama.

The people on the surface are rather calm for hearing the news of their impending death. We see Miuna taking it really harshly and is in a panic. Hikari didn’t intend on scaring anyone but he had hope that everyone helping finish the Ofunehiki would fix the whole ordeal. Of course, I’d feel terrible for Miuna’s situation. Poor girl.

Tears have never looked cuter

There is still so much left to happen. Manaka being in such a predicament was such a tear jerker. It hurts too much, guys.

Eh?

Kaname finally steps up and confesses to Chisaki! We figured out that he has liked Chisaki since the earlier episodes but has been reluctant to respect Chisaki’s feelings for Hikari. This is a bombshell of a development! Dis gon be gud.

Prediction for Next Week:

Hikari be the hero and save everybody and get the girl! Yeah that wouldn’t happen or this would be a happy story. I think Tsumugu might have a say in all this soon.
